Back in the 90s I started to become interested in quilting and I joined a local quilting society. There I learned how to hand quilt, and I also learned the importance of being accurate when sewing, which of course set the foundation of me actually sewing well.
I started on a quilt with Hello Kitty motif because I rekindled my childhood nostalgia in Sanrio at about same time so the choice of motif was given. (I grew up in late 70’s to early 80’s with Hello Kitty, My Melody and Little Twin Stars items. Thank you, mother!)
I bought the Hello Kitty print fabrics from Japan, my first Japanese online purchase and I completed it with other matching fabrics. I pieced them on machine, together with a white center part and then I machine appliqued a large Hello Kitty motif on it.
I sandwiched the layers with extra thick batting and I hand quilted the whole thing, straight lines along the blocks and then outline around the applique motif.
Then I took years on me to complete the borders. That is so typical of me. Close to goal, then abandon of fear of messing it up. But once finished I became pleased with it.
